Spanish CEO Pablo Isla is world number three in Harvard leader rankings

THE CEO of Spanish fashion company, Inditex, has been placed third in the Harvard Business Review’s rankings of the most successful CEOs in the world.

Isla has moved to third after placing fourteenth in the same list last year.

Inditex is known for such famous brands as Zara and Bershka and Isla became CEO in 2005 before taking on chairman duties in 2011.

The fashion company had a net profit of €2.5 billion for the 2013-2014 financial year. With its net sales having risen to €18.12 billion it is now the largest clothing company in the world, based on sales.

Inditex is expanding and with the 343 new stores opened in 2014, its total number of global stores is 6,683. The company said in March that: “We continue to see huge growth opportunities in both western and eastern Europe.”

Isla, 51, is from Madrid, where he studied law at Madrid’s Complutense University. The fashion CEO is not the only Spanish leader on the global rankings with two of his countrymen also making the list.

At number 13 is the CEO of Spanish civil engineering company ACS, Florentino Perez Rodriguez. Inigo Meira, the head of construction company Ferrovial, is placed at number 51.
