DOG WALK: Event was getting more popular, raising hundreds for Cruz Azul animal welfare charity.

THE Walk on the Barkside charity event in aid of the Cruz Azul animal welfare charity had to be cancelled at the last minute.

Charity president Lyn Baines said: “It is with great sadness and regret that we had to cancel the walk, which was due to start at the Club Nautico in Los Alcázares. This is due to circumstances beyond our control. At the last moment, the licence to run this event was rescinded. According to the Ayuntamiento de Los Alcázares, Murcia Town Hall is planning to ban all dogs walking on the promenade.”

Lyn explained that, with the announcement made so late, they were unable to contest it and ask for a copy of the law, if it has been passed, so regrettably, the event had to be cancelled.

The charity is refunding any registrations paid in advance and refunds can be given at the Cruz Azul Centre in San Javier.

Lyn said it is a shame as the event was growing year on year but they are now looking at do something like a mini-October fest to include dogs, next year.
