Orihuela boardwalk will reopen once safety work is completed

IMPROVEMENT WORK: Pathway will reopen once safety work is completed.

ORIHUELA is carrying out works to prevent landslides on the cliffs of the urbanisation of Cabo Roig, which currently affect the beaches of Cala Capitan and La Caleta.

Councillor Sofia Alvarez said there was a budget in place of €290,613 for the improvement work, which is planned to start “in a month.”

The project will consist of the dismantling and removal of the overhanging pieces of material to avoid the possible risk to pedestrians, cleaning up the slopes to remove loose materials, cleaning of the gullies in order to obtain a uniform slope and placing a wire mesh with rock anchors over the cliff face to ensure stability, with the aim of preventing possible detachments.

Councillor Alvarez said that upon completion of the works the council will open the stretch of boardwalk that is currently closed to pedestrians for safety reasons.
