MALAGA COUNCIL has bought as many as 37,610 trees which are to reforest the big natural spaces which surround the city, as well as the main mountains which are integrated in the main urban area (Victoria, San Anton, La Pelusa and Coronado).

The Parks and Gardens Department has spent €124,000 on the samples, which have are mainly pine trees, stone pines, holm oaks and carob trees, as they are native to the Mediterranean area and are able to grow in areas where the soil is somewhat damaged.

The aim is to reduce erosion of said natural spaces, which could, in turn, also stop flooding.

The reforestation works will be performed on natural sites in Churriana, Lagarillo Blanco, Virreina, Cañaveral and the Montes de Malaga.
