DR JULIA REID, one of two UKIP MEPs for South West England and Gibraltar, in company with fellow MEP, James Carver, raised the Gibraltar flag in the European Parliament during the speech delivered by King Felipe VI.
Although a number of Spanish MEPs from the United Left, the Galician Left Alternative, the Republican Left of Catalonia and the Basque nationalist EHBildu party left the hall before he started speaking, the Izquierda Unida representatives left the Spanish Republican and Galician independence flags on their desks before they left.
In a long speech, King Felipe described Spain as “united and proud of its diversity,” and “respectful of the rule of law.”
