Safer roads a priority

SAFETY FIRST: agreements were drawn up at a meeting to make the roads even safer

LOCAL Police officers from Estepona are to be sent on a training course to help them quickly detect when drivers have taken drugs.

At a meeting between provincial DGT traffic authority leader, Trinidad Hernandez, and Estepona Mayor, Garcia Urbano, last week, agreements were drawn up to increase road safety in the town.

Although, with no fatal accidents registered during the first half of this year, Estepona was announced as one of the most road-safe towns in Malaga province, there is always room for improvement, the two agreed.

Therefore, 30 officers will receive special training to help them spot drivers who have taken drugs and the town has joined a Safe School Surroundings project to reduce traffic near schools.
