HOTEL owners in Platja de Palma have warned that investments of up to €150 million to be spent during the low season could be withdrawn if the amendments to tourism establishments regulations are not approved in October or, at the latest, in November.
Head of the Hotel Owners Association in Palma, Francisco Marin, expressed his concern for the decision of the Palma Council to paralyse the projects which were meant to unify interpretation criteria for the General Tourism Law and the Integral Reform Plan (PRI) of the tourism area.
For her part, Head of the Mallorca Hotel Owners Federation, Imma Benito, expressed the same concern and requested regional and local administrations to speed up the process to avoid losing investments.
Mr Marin said he trusts this paralysis will not affect those projects that comply with all regulations. However, he explained that if many investors do not have their licenses for October or November, these projects will not be carried out during the weekend, as works would have to be finished by the next summer season.
