OCTOBER 2 marks the second anniversary of the launch of ‘Roca’, a Guardia Civil group of officers that specialises in the prevention and prosecution of crimes in the Spanish countryside.

Since its inception, it has been reported that thefts in rural areas of the Murcia Region have considerably fallen.

In the first three months of its launch from October to December 2013, thefts fell 5 per cent and in the first eight months of this year, they dropped 20 per cent.

There are 97 Roca teams distributed throughout Spain, with nearly 400 Guardia Civil agents dedicated almost exclusively to combatting crimes in the countryside and on farms where machinery, livestock and crops are particularly targeted.
