THE Popular Party (PP) has asked Murcia Regional Government to support plans for Cartagena to become a start and end port for cruises.
The PP believes this would bring a tourism boost to the area and improve the local economy with cruisers making more overnight stays in the city rather than just visiting for a few hours.
PP spokesman in the Regional Assembly, Victor Manuel Martinez, said: “Cartagena has a huge potential as a tourist city,” with cruises potentially opening up the city to more international tourists.
Meanwhile, the Murcia Region has been named the third community less visited by Spanish tourists. Trips made by residents of Madrid to Murcia accounted for just 2.2 per cent of the total, with Andalucia being the most popular destination.
