A MAN in his thirties died from the serious injuries he sustained in a car accident in Can Picafort.
His 4×4 vehicle left the road, crossed the path of oncoming traffic, hit a tree and overturned and he was trapped inside near Playas de Muro. Guardia Civil, firemen and paramedics attended the scene. They noticed that there were car seats for children in the vehicle and searched the area several times to make sure that no minors were with him at the time of the accident. Attempts to resuscitate the man were in vain.
The road was closed to traffic for half an hour until a rescue truck removed the vehicle.
In a separate incident, a cyclist in his sixties died while cycling in Palmanova. Reports suggest he suddenly felt ill and got off his bicycle to rest, but died shortly afterwards at the side of the cycle lane. Police and Guardia Civil attended the scene.
