NOT only have more tourists from abroad been drawn to Spain so far this year, they have also been digging deeper into their pockets, the latest statistics have revealed.
During the first eight months of the year, international visitors to the country have spent €46.5 billion, seven per cent more than during the same period last year, the Egatur Tourist Spending Survey by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism has found.
While the number of visitors was recently reported to have increased by 4.1 per cent, with 47.2 million arrivals registered up to August, the average amount spent has gone up to €987 per person.
Asian countries, Belgium, the US and Italy registered the greatest increases in spending, while in terms of total amounts spent the UK and Asian countries were at the top of the big-spenders list.
In August alone, the Egatur report highlighted, overseas visitors spent almost €9.5 billion.
