Dirty streets in Motril cause complaints

THE Council of Motril has released a statement after public institutions were inundated with complaints from residents concerning the poor condition of local streets, where waste has been piling up.

The PP (Conservative Party) has launched a petition which will be taken to the Andalucia ombudsman to file an official complaint.

“Our city does not look as we would all wish it to,” said Deputy Mayor and head of the cleaning company LIMDECO, Francisco Sanchez Cantalejo, who continued: “We are demanding and want Motril locals and visitors to enjoy our city in the best condition possible.”

He went on to say that the main reason for a lack of cleanliness in the town was the lack of personnel which he says is insufficient for a town as big as Motril. Another reason alleged was out-dated machinery being made available to the company and he stated that they do not have enough money to renovate said machines.

“We currently have a budget of €8 million. This is similar to cities a third of the size of Motril,” he alleged and continued: “During the past eight year there has been a 40 per cent reduction in staff but the town has continued to grow.”

Finally, he said that plans are to be put in motion in the autumn to find a solution to this issue.
