ACTIVE people and nature enthusiasts are in luck as they will now be able to choose from a great variety of new hiking trails.

The Malaga Provincial Council has presented its series of events, titled “Autumn Hikes 2015”, in a programme which includes five routes to enjoy the wonders of Malaga’s ‘Great Trail’ (Gran Senda). The hikes will take place on October 4 and 25 as well as on November 8, 15 and 22. All the hikes are free and each participant can choose a maximum of two routes, with the only proviso being that participants must be above 14 years of age. Minors (between 14 and 17) will have to be accompanied by a parent or another responsible adult.

The inscription period is open from one week before each hike, and one can register at www.intranet.malaga.es/Senderos. Once registered, participants will receive a reservation number which can then be printed an presented on the day of the event.

The first route goes from Velez Malaga to Torrox; the second covers the distance between Fuente Piedra-Humilladero and Mollina; the third goes over Frigiliana and Competa: This is described as the most difficult one with a total length of 26,400 metres and should take approximately eight hours and 30 minutes.

The two other routes cover areas of Costa del Sol with one of them focussing on bird spotting.
