THE Valencian Agency of Tourism (AVT) carried out inspections of 739 tourist properties in the region in a clamp down on illegal rentals.
The AVT and the Tax and Security agencies launched the initiative this summer, carrying out inspections in Torrevieja, Benidorm, El Campello, Denia, Calpe and Teulada-Moraira.
These were largely to inform rental company owners that properties must comply with regulations and that the situation should be legalised.
As previously reported in The Euro Weekly News, the AVT’s campaign targeted the illegal supply of tourist apartments and the unfair competition it creates. Now, a rental licence number must be obtained for all properties to show they are licensed and regulated.
Since its beginning, it has been reported that 3,895 more properties have come on to the tourist market.
