RESIDENTS on urbanisations on the outskirts of Estepona have reason to celebrate as the council has finally approved a longstanding project aimed to gradually take over maintenance costs.
Initially, the council explained, the town hall will provide 10 per cent of the cost and the amount will gradually increase to 100 per cent over a 10 year period.
Locals have been demanding the measure for many years as they have always had to pay the same taxes as those living in the centre yet also have to fork out for services within their residential complexes.
The agreement, the council reported, must now be sent to the Junta de Andalucia regional government for approval, which is expected to be granted as there are no reports against the proposal.
