DISCOUNTS, promotions and information greeted passengers arriving on the Amadea cruise ship in Torrevieja on Tuesday afternoon.
Ahead of the much anticipated arrival of the first cruise ship to arrive in the city, councillor for Commerce and Catering, Manuela Osuna, announced that 35 local businesses had joined the initiative to offer discounts in their stores for cruise passengers.
A meet and greet tent was sent up in the port area to welcome visitors with local information which had been printed in both English and German as well as maps of Torrevieja.
The Amadea cruise ship, almost 200m in length did not dock in the bay, but was further out at sea with the passengers wishing to come onshore making the short trip by shuttle boat. Torrevieja’s own tourist train was on also on hand to take visitors from the port into the city centre.
Following criticism about the council’s earlier lack of enthusiasm about the cruise ship, councillor Osuna said they hoped to bring “the best images of the city and to have a city open to tourists.”
