THE International Sailing Federation World Cup is a world-class annual series for Olympic sailing. It is open to the sailing events chosen for the Rio 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition.

Following demand from sailors, ISAF Member National Authorities and the media, the International Sailing Federation launched the ISAF Sailing World Cup in 2008 to bring the existing major regattas on the Olympic sailing circuit together.

Spanish competitors made the long journey to Qingdao in China to participate in the leg that is mainly for Asian competitors wanting to qualify for Rio next year.

Representing ISAF Antonio González de la Madrid said at the opening ceremony on September 15, “On behalf of ISAF I would like to thank Qingdao for the incredible welcome that you have shown all the sailors and officials who have come here.”

At the moment, Great Britain leads the overall 2014/2015 competition medal table with 12 golds, Australia has 11 whilst Spain has two so far.
