HEALTH STUDIES: Almeria’s amongst the best

ALMERIA UNIVERSITY’S Health Studies Department has had to hang up a ‘No Vacancies’ sign.

The 130 places for Nursing and 65 for Physiotherapy were snapped up between June and July, making this the most sought-after faculty on the La Cañada campus.

There are still 672 applicants on the waiting list for Nursing and 488 for Physiotherapy, hoping that someone will decide to drop out at the last moment.

Each year the department also receives requests from hospitals in the UK, France and Germany asking to be put in touch with newly-qualified graduates. “The training offered here is very good and very practical,” said Carmen Gonzalez Canalejo, Dean of the Health Studies faculty.

Not only are there more than five times more applicants than places, but the cut-off mark for admission is extremely high with 9.28 out of 10 needed for Nursing last year and a 10 for Physiotherapy. “This year will be the same,” Gonzalez Canalejo said.
