CARMEN López, 42, the only Ciudadanos councillor for Castilleja de la Cuesta in Andalucía claims family reasons have forced to her relocate to Chicago, Illinois, but wants to keep her position with the council, so she asked the secretary to give her advance warning of the scheduled monthly meetings and for ‘a suitable plane ticket’.
She cannot be removed as she hasn’t broken any rules but it must be difficult to serve the town of 17,000 people when she is 6,000 km away and doesn’t exactly have her finger on the pulse of what is happening.
The former Miss Seville only became a councillor in May of this year but party chiefs have asked her to resign and are considering disciplinary procedure.
