THE rainfall recorded in the last five days in the province has not reduced the risk of further ‘Gota Frias,’ with the risk remaining high for the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast.
Climatologist and professor Jorge Olcina recalls previous year’s storms, stating that they can easily continue on into October and November, like that in 1987.
Olcina explains that climate change projections also indicate that such heavy downpours from 50 to 100 litres of rain per square metre in just a few hours could become much more common, noting that in this case sewage works and efficient drainage systems need to be in place.
