EXPATRIATES now make up about 30 per cent of cases treated at Costa del Sol hospitals, the health department has reported.
Although more patients from abroad could be expected during the summer months due to visiting tourists, in fact the numbers do not vary all that much, Costa del Sol Health Agency casualty section leader Miguel Martinez explained.
Last year, Marbella’s Costa del Sol hospital reported numbers of non-Spanish patients treated to include 27,404 at the A&E department, 61,103 outpatients and 4,496 people who were admitted. Of the 2,857 babies born there during the year, 1,041 had non-Spanish mothers.
