STRONG winds complicated matters no end for firefighters battling a blaze that broke out in the Casares area on Tuesday night (September 15).
Ground teams from Infoca forest firefighting and prevention service assisted by fire brigades from nearby towns spent the night fighting to get the fire under control, and aircraft were brought in at daybreak to help out.
At 9am the fire was declared stabilised by Infoca as work continued to try and get the flames out and stop them flaring up again.
Although no homes had to be evacuated by the authorities, some people decided to leave their homes voluntarily as a precaution.
