Only three Spanish universities amongst top 200

THE University of Barcelona (UB) has been rated as the best institution in Spain, ranked at the 166th position of the World University Ranking.

The list was produced by consultancy company Quacquerelli Symonds, one of the three most important international rankings, together with the Shanghai and Times Higher Education lists.

Only three Spanish universities have been listed amongst the 200 best rated: the Autonomous University of Madrid (186) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the above mentioned UB. The two first ones have also dropped several places as last year they were ranked in 178th and 173rd position respectively. At 265th is the private Navarra University.

The classification was made taking into consideration the academic reputation of the 891 universities analysed and the number of mentions made by international publications, amongst other features.

The ranking was led by the Massachusetts Technology Institute (MIT), followed by Harvard, Cambridge University, Stanford University and the California Technology Institute (Caltech).
