NORTH KOREA has warned that its nuclear complex is fully operational and ready to respond to hostility from the US at any time.

The KCNA state news agency has reported that nuclear weapons are being improved in number and quality and daily innovations are making the deterrent more and more reliable.

The US currently has about 28,500 troops posted in South Korea to avoid possible aggression from North Korea. Although the Korean War ended in 1953 it did so with an armistice rather than a peace treaty meaning technically, the two are still in a state of war more than 60 years on.

Just last month, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un told troops to be ready for war after accusing neighbouring South Korea of broadcasting propaganda over the border between the two and there were reports of shells being fired at a loudspeaker.

“If the US and other hostile forces persistently seek their reckless hostile policy towards the DPRK and behave mischievously, the DPRK is fully ready to cope with them with nuclear weapons any time,” the head of the Atomic Energy Institute has declared.
