TWELVE people have died and another 10 have been injured in Egypt in accidental gunfire.
The Egyptian Interior Ministry reported that police and army members were chasing militants in the western desert near the border with Libya and had mistakenly shot at four four-wheel drive vehicles which were part of an unapproved tourist safari.
The area, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism declared, is off-limits, the cars were unlicensed and the authorities had not been informed of the trip.
Work is under way to identify the victims, two of whom have so far been confirmed to be Mexican.
