THE National Police force is investigating a car theft during which shots rang out on Thursday (September 10) in San Pedro in full daylight, shocking local residents.
Shortly before 4pm residents on Calle Los Geraneos, near the old fairground, rushed onto the street in alarm as four shots rang out, allegedly made by four people who fled the scene in an Audi. A man who claimed to be the owner of the car was left standing in the street, saying he had come from Algeciras to pick up a friend and his car had been stolen.
Investigators said that a disagreement arose between the two parties inside a home in the area and once outside, the car was stolen at gunpoint. As they fled the scene the alleged thieves let off four shots which luckily caused no injuries.
While 112 Andalucia Emergency Services received a number of calls reporting the gunfire, the police force was alerted to a possible kidnapping, although a spokesperson later confirmed nobody had been kidnapped or injured.
Witnesses said everything happened very quickly and complained that they no longer feel safe, as the police investigate whether the case could be drugs related.
