Kayak trip to help raise funds for the AECC cancer charity

KAYAK CHALLENGE: Dave (left) and son Mitch are in training for the November rowing event

FATHER and son team Dave and Mitch Bull are planning an epic kayak trip to help raise funds for the AECC cancer charity.

Training is now under way for the 52-kilometre river row from Murcia to Guardamar with trainer Bea Cota at the helm getting the guys in top shape; maybe not an easy feat, as Dave admitted: “I am an early bird so a 5.30am start did not faze me but the workout sure did! After a gruelling half hour with Bea I was ready for a strong coffee and a quick fag, but no. Bea said ‘Right that’s the warm-up done, now for the real stuff. We are now ready to start your first session,’ and I thought it was all over, it certainly felt like it should have been!”

The aim is to set off on November 28 and they will also be carrying GPS tracking devices so their progress can be followed down the Rio Segura.

However, they do need a second kayak to train with and to use on the day so if anyone has a basic model buried in their garage or underbuild, now could be the time to unearth it and put it to good use. If you can help in any way, email Susan at [email protected]
