‘Four Seasons in One Day’ Strange weather conditions reported in Mallorca

REPORTS of torrential rain, lightning and hailstones were received from the EWN man on the ground in Mallorca on Friday September 4. If it wasn’t for the fact that the snow was months ago, it would have been a perfect backdrop for the Crowded House song ‘Four Seasons in One Day.’

The previous week had a recorded high of 33°C and an average temperature of 26°C but the weather gods certainly didn’t smile on Mallorca on Friday.

The forecast for the following few days is good with projected sun and little cloud so it must be assumed that the day of thunder and lightning was a one-off, which could perhaps be blamed on the effects of the weather front El Niño which often brings torrential rainfall.

According to scientists El Niño have been affecting weather mainly in the Pacific for the past 10,000 years, but it is only recently that proper studies of its effects have been made thanks to the advent of weather satellites.
