Reboot for abandoned Alicante development

By TimBrighton (Flikr)

MORE than six years after work stopped, the 1,500-home La Albufereta development is to restart.

The promoter informed Alicante City Hall that he had overcome the bankruptcy that halted the project. The three-party alliance controlling city hall is unlikely to raise objections and will give the project the go-ahead.

City hall’s Urban Development councillor Miguel Angel Pavon is in favour of restarting the development and transforming the now desolate and unsightly area.

There is a downside for city hall because a wall of buildings between 10 and 12 storeys will separate the Serra Grossa and the sea. There is an upside, however, because restarting the development frees city hall from compensating the developer for using the company’s surety to tidy up the abandoned site in 2012.
