Boats on the beach at Playa del Castillo
FUENGIROLA Town Hall has adapted one of the boats used for beach parties on Playa del Castillo so it is accessible for the disabled.
The Councillor for Beaches, Jose Sanchez, said that this had been requested by local residents so that anyone could have beach parties in the area, the only spot where they are allowed in the town.
The boats on the beach have been used by some 28,000 people this summer, the councillor explained. The height of one of them has been reduced to make it easier to cook on it. It is the one closest to the access ramps to the beach, the toilets and the showers. A 40m2 hard surface has been included around it.
Like anyone else, those who want to use it must request authorisation from the Local Police and pay a fee of €5.10, as well as provide photocopies of the ID cards of two users. To use the adapted boat, the disability certificate will also be required.
The boats are very popular and at weekends the adapted one will be opened to the general public as well.
The resident who first requested that one of the boats be adapted has thanked the town hall and said that he and his friends will soon be using it for a party.
The area for beach parties, with seven metal boats to cook on, was first opened in 2008. In 2009 another three boats were installed. Each one can be used for two parties at once and has rubbish bins so that users can clean up after themselves. They can be used for lunches (between 9am and 9pm) or for dinners (9pm to 9am).
