NINETEEN people have died off Valencian coasts during the summer, the most recent victim losing his life off Pinedo beach on Friday (August 21).
Lifeguards noticed a 39-year-old man struggling to get out of the water. One of his friends and another witness jumped into the water and attempted to rescue him, and the latter suffered injuries after slipping on the rocks.
Emergency services took the victim to the nearest breakwater. They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques for half an hour, but to no avail, and the man died shortly afterwards. His friend also suffered injuries and was taken in an ambulance to the Peset Hospital.
