Benidorm’s SATE office moving nearer to ‘British Zone’

VISIT: Mayor Toni Perez and Juan Carlos Moragues (first and second left)

BENIDORM’S highly successful Servicio de Atencion al Turista Extranjero (SATE) office is relocating.

It will move later this year from Edificio Torrecho near the centre of Benidorm to the Rincon de Loix. The office opened in June 2013 to help foreign tourists who have been victims of crime while on holiday. They attend to them in their own language and deal with the necessary red-tape and paperwork.

This year the SATE team of six National Police officers and two interpreters have already assisted 1,200 tourists, of whom 881 were British. A further 86 were Spanish and the remainder came from the European Union and other non-member countries.

The national government’s delegate to the Valencian Community Juan Carlos Moragues visited the present SATE office recently, accompanied by Benidorm mayor Toni Perez.

Despite the SATE office’s popularity and excellent record, the resort wants to try even harder, Perez declared. “That’s why SATE will move within a few months to new and better offices in the Rincon de Loix,” he said.

This area at the far end of the Levante beach area is where so much of Benidorm’s foreign tourism is concentrated. It is also near the hugely popular bars and discos of the ‘Zona inglesa.’

During his visit Moragues also revealed plans for a future exchange programme with the UK police. “It’s possible that bobbies could soon be on the beat here,” he said.
