MORE than 8,000 passengers breathed sighs of relief on Friday (August 21) as Iberia baggage handlers finally called off strikes that had been announced which could have caused chaos at Malaga-Costa del Sol airport.
UGT trade union representative for the air sector in Andalucia Fernando Barba announced that an agreement had been reached with the authorities for temporary substitutes to be found for workers on long-term sick leave and vehicles in bad condition to be repaired.
The strikes, planned for August 21 and 28, were to affect 40-50 flights and more than 8,000 passengers according to the union, although Iberia representatives said the data was incorrect and figures would have been much lower.
