Pedro in his FC Barcelona days.
THE SALE of their former striker Pedro to Chelsea has seen the largest profit for any player who has come through the Barcelona youth scheme by several million euros.
There has however been a surprising and very welcome benefit to the little Raqui San Isidro club, from the city of Santa Cruz on Tenerife, as it is due to receive €410,000 for its role in training Pedro in his early career.
Considering that the club’s annual budget is in the region of €100,000 and it has debts of up to €300,000, the 1.5 per cent cut of the transfer fee which it is due will be a major lifeline for the club, which also boasts a women’s team.
