The quiet village's fair was interrupted by approaching flames
A FIRE which forced evacuation of more than 2,000 people from Benahavis fair late on Saturday (August 15) is now out, Infoca forest fire fighting service has announced.
The fire surprised hundreds of visitors to the inland Costa del Sol village and non-residents were told to leave the village square at 10.30pm on Saturday as a precaution as flames began to get too close for comfort.
The Junta de Andalucia reported that the blaze, which was finally declared out after a long day’s work on the part of the fire brigades and emergency services, was not believed to have been started on purpose and said that investigations into how it started will be carried out.
