Bodies of two missing women found near Cuenca

THE bodies of two young women, who have been missing in Cuenca (Castilla-La Mancha) since August 5, have been found partly buried on the bank of the river Huecar.

The bodies were discovered by a local man who was out cycling on Wednesday (August 12), and the police have since confirmed that they are in fact those of Laura del Hoyo, aged 26, and Marina Okarynska, 24.

Initial reports say the bodies showed signs of burns and have been covered with lime.

A man wanted for questioning in connection with the women’s deaths, Sergio Morate, Marina’s ex-boyfriend, is still missing.

Since Laura and Marina were reported missing, the city of Cuenca has rallied round their families, with 4,500 people gathering for a mass meeting on Wednesday, before the discovery of the bodies, where police and the families called for help in the search.

Now the city has declared three official days of mourning, and held a rally at 11am on Thursday (August 13) to show support for the grieving families.
