Elvis: A legend reborn in Marbella

0

ONCE in a few generations, we mere mortals are fortunate enough to experience the music of a giant such as Elvis Presley. The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll died on August 16 1977, but his legacy is a music that turned our world around, a music that shaped what we listen to today.

A phenomenon even more infrequent would be if that beautifully talented voice became reincarnated in another. However, as rare as that marvel may seem, it has happened! The King may have died 38 years ago this week, but his ghost now looks over another.

The legendary song-writing team of Leiber and Stoller, who were responsible for the sweet sorrowful tones of Don’t, through Jailhouse Rock, to the hip-shaking King Creole, have recognised the ghostly soul of the King in Antony Wolfson, and blessed him with a song written for Elvis himself.

It was Leiber and Stoller who put the magic into the master’s voice. But unfortunately since the passing of Elvis, none have been worthy enough to take up the mantle, until now.

Mike Stoller, who recently gave the song Stay a While to Antony to record and release said, “Antony’s relaxed performance matches the mood of the song perfectly.”

The production and worldwide release of Antony’s track, including the video shoot, was handled from recording studios in Marbella by the internationally renowned music promoter Tim Knight, whose 50 years’ experience in the industry has seen him work with stars including Shirley Bassey, Status Quo, Van Morrison and Thin Lizzy.

Tim said: “Antony’s gift is probably best summed up by Joe Esposito, Elvis Presley’s road manager, who simply said, ‘Wow!’”

Kathy Westmoreland, Elvis Presley’s high voice singer and Antony’s close friend, said: “I love everything he does. He has a beautiful voice.” And Ginger Alden, Elvis’s ex-girlfriend, thanked him for sharing his beautiful voice with the world. Even members of Elvis’s family are devout fans.

Antony said: “I feel so blessed; all the omens are with me. With a wonderful track from Mike Stoller and the support of Elvis’s friends and family, I can feel his spirit behind me. I know Stay a While is going to be a hit.”

Antony Wolfson and his wonderful voice have had a number of high-profile entertainment residencies at the very best hotels and clubs around the world, and he is now taking Marbella and the Costa del Sol by storm.
