Valencian councillor suspected of killing wife dies in jail

MARCOS CABO, an Esquerra Unida councillor in Serra, Valencia, was found dead on Sunday (August 9) in the cell he had been held in since Friday suspected of being involved in the death of his wife last week.

Cabo was arrested on Wednesday following investigations regarding a house fire on July 29 in which his wife lost her life, the Valencia High Court reported.

The councillor was found first thing on Sunday morning and is believed to have used a sheet to hang himself. Although he was taken to the medical wing doctors could do nothing to save his life.

The High Court has explained that investigations are already underway into the incident as the prisoner was on suicide watch.
