CUEVAS del Almanzora Council is studying a number of proposals to convert the Canal de Remo channel created for the Mediterranean Games into a high performance sports facility.
Built 10 years ago with the games in mind, the 1,200-metre long channel fell into disuse after the financial crisis put paid to two separate development projects, and it currently houses little more than occasional summer schools.
The facility could now become home for a variety of nautical lessons and competitions and a training ground for top sportspeople thanks to the proposals presented, hopefully attracting tourists and brining more income to the hotel and catering sector in the area.
