Eight die on Spanish roads over weekend

EIGHT people have died on Spanish roads in five of the six separate accidents that occurred over the weekend.

Another six people sustained injuries of differing gravity, according to the information provided by the General Traffic Department (DGT).

Of the five fatal accidents, three were caused after vehicles swerved out of the road, two were collisions and one pedestrian was run over.

So far this year, a total of 642 people have died in road accidents in Spain.

The DGT launched a new special campaign on Monday (August 10) to detect those driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, which will run until August 16.
