THE Guardia Civil had to step in and rescue an 87-year-old man who was driving the wrong way down the A7 motorway near El Ejido on a mobility scooter at 10pm.
After drivers reported the issue a patrol was sent to the scene and the elderly man spotted, seemingly oblivious to cars having to break and swerve to avoid hitting him.
Although an officer ordered him to halt, he was in a confused state and eventually the policeman had to stop the scooter himself and move it to safety while his colleagues directed traffic. The man was later taken to El Ejido’s Hospital del Poniente.
