Torremolinos steps up jellyfish fight

TORREMOLINOS has bought its own cleaning boat, which will be in service for the rest of the summer to remove floating residue and jellyfish from the town’s beaches.

The council explained that the town had not employed a boat to clean the beaches since 2009 and upon asking for prices found it would cost between €16,000 and €20,000 per month for the service. Due to the expense other options were studied and in the end a boat was found to buy for just €11,679.

The new purchase will be on duty daily from 11am to 7pm, Beaches department councillor Cesar Carrasco reported, working to keep the town’s six kilometres of beaches clean.

Tests carried out at the end of June revealed that the quality of waters off all the beaches in the town were in excellent condition, which the council hopes will help Torremolinos recover blue flags for its beaches.
