A POST MORTEM examination revealed that Cilla Black died of a stroke after she fell and hit her head while sunbathing on the terrace of her villa in Estepona, a coroner has stated.

In a family statement on Tuesday August 4, her sons confirmed that she had been relaxing on her terrace in the sun at her Estepona home when she stood up, lost her balance, fell and hit her head, knocking herself unconscious and suffering a fatal stroke.

Expressing their gratitude for the hundreds of messages from fans, friends and family in honour of the much-loved celebrity, her sons Robert, Ben and Jack said they were “deeply touched,” adding: “We would like to thank everyone, especially the people of Liverpool. The tributes and condolences have really helped us through these difficult times.”

They also said that while they were “devastated by the sad loss of our mother” they did not believe she suffered at the time of her death. Cilla had arrived in Malaga with her son Robert on Friday July 31, the day before the accident happened.

The star will shortly be flown back to the UK. “The Spanish authorities have now told us we are able to bring Mum home, which we hope to do as quickly as possible.” They also asked to be allowed to grieve in private. Details of the funeral have not been released yet.
