THE El Valle wildlife recovery centre in Murcia has welcomed its 1000th patient.A white headed duck was found to be disorientated and in distress in the mountains over Murcia and spent a few days at the wildlife centre recovering before being released to the lakes of Las Morerars in Mazarron. Las Morerars is a popular breeding ground for the species and it is hoped it will adapt itself back in to the natural environment. The recovery centre receives around 1,900 animals each year with approximately 40 per cent being released back in to the wild following treatment and recovery. But for many, they suffer injuries so extensive they cannot be released back in to the wild to be left to fend for themselves.
