Caminito del Rey village asks to borrow king’s bust

THE mayor of Alora has asked for a loan of a bust of former king Juan Carlos I recently removed from a Barcelona City Hall meeting room.
Mayor Jose Sanchez explained that he had written a letter to Ada Colau, mayor of Barcelona, inviting her to visit the Malaga village, with 14,000 inhabitants, and the Caminito del Rey (King’s Walkway).
Sanchez thinks the bust, which would be put on display at the town hall and in the future at a visitors’ centre with necessary security measures, would be a great way to promote the Caminito.
King Juan Carlos, Sanchez said, is living history of Spain and should be shown due respect, therefore the bust should be on display, not locked in a storeroom.
Alora, although hopeful that its Caminito attraction could tip the scales in its favour, is not the only place to have asked for the bust since its controversial removal from display in Barcelona as others have also asked to borrow it.
