England edging towards 2-1 lead but Ashes victory not assured

Paul Hayday

DAY two of the third Ashes Test match at Edgbaston saw the England team on the verge of an Ashes victory.
Thanks to the bowling of Steven Finn, who took a five-wicket haul, England looked set to take the lead in the series by 2-1. Earlier in the match, Peter Nevill and Mitchell Johnson’s confident approach had earned the Australia 42 runs that had given them a slight lead. That was until Finn quickly put Johnson out of action.
Yet the celebrations are still on hold due to concerns for seamer James Anderson, who had to abandon the match after the excruciating pain of a muscle injury during Australia’s second innings. The incident clearly dented England’s confidence, and may put an end to their dreams of taking the Ashes too.
