Tourists spend more in Balearics this year

FOREIGN tourists spent €3.75 billion in the Balearic Islands in the first six months of this year, 8.4 per cent more than during the same period last year.
The average daily expenditure also increased by 6.5 per cent to €112 as well as the average expenditure per tourist which rose 3.9 per cent to €853.
According to the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism, the Balearic Islands was the region which saw the second highest spending levels in the first six months of this year, beaten only by Cataluña, which accounted for 24.5 per cent of the total in Spain, while the Balearic Islands saw 24.4 per cent. The United Kingdom was the market which contributed most to the improvements.
In June, foreign tourists spent €1.57 billion in the Balearic Islands, 2.9 per cent more than in June 2014, with an average daily expenditure of €117 (up by 3.7 per cent) and an average per tourist of €912 (up 3.4 per cent).
On a whole, Spain saw record-breaking figures for the first six months of the year, with a total of €28.28 billion, 7.4 per cent more than the same period last year. The average expenditure was €115 and the average per person €969, up by 4.2 and 3.1 per cent respectively from last year.
