MORE than half of 126 passengers on an Aguilas (Murcia) pleasure boat were taken ill after their trip. Some of the passengers – who included a Spanish hen party – were from Mojacar, Vera and Garrucha.Sources from the Almeria 061 Emergency services said they received multiple calls complaining of stomach aches, vomiting and diarrhoea. It later emerged that all had been passengers on the same coastal cruise. They received medical attention at health centres in Almeria and Murcia provinces as well as the La Inmaculada and Rafael Mendez hospitals in Huercal-Overa and Lorca.Although the same sources described the patients’ symptoms as “mild” Public Health officials compiled epidemiological questionnaires and took samples to determine the exact cause of the intoxication.
