FIVE Almeria province radar traps were big earners in 2014 and responsible for 2,732 fines.
Despite the DGT traffic authority’s entreaties to drive responsibly, last year 1,868 drivers tripped the Kilometre 404.45 speed camera on the Autovia del Mediterraneo near El Ejido.
This was the biggest sneak of all, followed by the camera at Kilometre 391 near Viator on the A-92 just before the A-7 intersection which earned drivers a further 377 fines.
Speed cameras on the A-334 at Kilometre 49 near Purchena and Kilometre 468 on the A-7 between El Viso and Retamar were respectively responsible for 244 and 222 fines.
The fifth most-productive was at Kilometre 451 on Autovia del Mediterraneo, bringing fines to 21 speeding drivers.
Almeria’s 30 speed traps were responsible for only €213,557 of the €13 million that Andalucia earned in traffic fines between January and June. Nor are Almeria’s “famous five” amongst Spain’s most active traps, a distinction that goes to those in the provinces of Malaga, Sevilla, Madrid and Valencia.
