Red Cross stays strong in the crisis

RED CROSS: NGO assists in a range of situations and has strengthened during the crisis.

THE Red Cross is one of the few institutions that has strengthened during the crisis, increasing by six per cent its number of partners and volunteers. However, the number of people in need of support from the charity has also increased while government funding has dropped, meaning the Red Cross has had to rely on donations and supporters more than ever.
New national president of the Red Cross, Javier Senet, has been in Alicante where he stressed the importance of the NGO and highlighted how they work to help and assist everyone. “We do not look at if you are legal or illegal but if you need help,” he said, commenting on their speed in acting, particularly when dealing with migrants arriving along the coastline.
The NGO said that in the last year they had treated and assisted more than 520,000 people in Alicante Province.
